Gers’ defender hints at why Rangers can beat Celtic to the title this season

Rangers secured their 2nd win of the new Premiership campaign with a 3-1 victory  over Ross County during the weekend, putting themselves in 5th position on the log and within closing distance of the league frontrunners Aberdeen and Celtic.

The result comes as a welcome development for manager Pedro Caixinha and his charges following disappointing back-to-back home draws against Hibernians and Hearts.

As a result, Gers full-back James Tavernier believes Rangers remain contenders for the title this term. Weekend’s victory is their only successful attempt at snatching victory over Ross County at the 4th time of asking, having failed to win in three meetings with them last term.

The Ibrox outfit have also not gone on a winning streak for 3 consecutive league games since the start of last season, but the English right-back claims, “Everyone is still in the running. It’s early days in the season, you can’t write yourselves off when it’s this early.

“It’s a strong league, you saw Celtic dropping points while Aberdeen needed a late goal and St Johnstone have been on a good run. You know that it’s a tough league and we have to concentrate on it win by win.”

Rangers resume from the international break with a visit from Dundee, before back to back trips to Firhill to take on Partick Thistle in the League Cup and in the SPFL.

Despite currently being 2 points behind table-topping Aberdeen, Celtic remain favorites to defend the title for the 6th time in a row.

The Gers, though, are hoping to cause an upset after finishing in 3rd place last season, 39 points adrift 1st place and 9 points behind 2nd placed Aberdeen.
