Pumas UNAM is struggling massively in the Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently in 16th place with only six points. The Mexico City team only has two wins coming against Pachuca and Lobos BUAP but have five losses to go along with that.

Paco Palencia has been relieved of his duties as the manager of Los Felinos, Sergio Egea serving as the interim manager for the last match against Veracruz. Pumas UNAM had a disastrous 1-0 loss against Veracruz in the seventh round of matches in the Apertura 2017.

A noticeable absence in the starting 11 for the Mexico City team was Chilean striker Nicolas Castillo. There have been rumors linking Castillo to a move to Portuguese club Sporting CP but Castillo’s absence from the starting 11 was due to an alleged injury.

The Chilean international has been carrying his team on his shoulders this season as the 24-year-old has five out of Pumas UNAM’S six goals in this Apertura 2017. The dependency on Nicolas Castillo for Los Universitarios is remarkable and a move away from Mexico City could guarantee that Pumas UNAM misses out on the playoffs.

Los Capitalinos have not looked like a playoff team anyways and selling the player that has scored 83-percent of the team’s goals this season can prove to be detrimental.
