Sunderland boss expresses frustration at losing out on top target

Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is said to be unhappy after losing out in the race to sign Max Gradel.

Grayson is hoping to add another striker to his squad before transfer deadline day and has now missed out on signing the Ivorian, who has instead chosen to link up with French club Toulouse on a season long loan deal from Bournemouth.

Grayson said, “We spoke to Max and he eventually decided to go back to France. We had agreed something with Bournemouth and ultimately he is a good player that I wanted to bring to the club.”

After arriving at the Cherries from Saint-Etienne in 2015, the 29-year-old Gradel failed to make an impression in the team.

All in all, he managed two goals from 23 appearances for the club. It came as no surprise that Eddie Howe’s team were looking to offload him.
