As revealed by The Sun, Tottenham have been handed a huge boost as Schalke midfielder and long-term target Max Meyer has claimed he could leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is a keen admirer of the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, and did reportedly table a £38million bid for him last summer only to be turned down.
However, there appears to be a green light given that Meyer isn’t willing to extend his contract with 04 beyond 2018.
In the words of the Euros Under-21 winner, “I declined the offer because I was not satisfied with my personal situation. I just saw no chance to develop.
“It would have been the wrong step, however, because the overall situation has changed. I am completely open on my future. Let’s see what happens.”
Tottenham are the only Premier League side yet to make a signing this summer, but it’s not as a result of being short of funds, with the sale of Kyle Walker alone earning them £50million weeks ago.
Meyer’s availability means part of that cash could be used in securing his services from Schalke 04 if they decide to make a swoop.
The versatile midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in the German game, and he would no doubt add depth to Spurs midfield if snapped up.
