Though Tottenham target Max Meyer is happy at current club Schalke, he has not ruled out the possibility of leaving. The German was part of Mauricio Pochettino’s January transfer shortlist last season but a move did not materialize.
With just twelve months remaining on his current contract, Meyer has since turned down a contract extension with his club and Spurs are currently monitoring his situation.
The player has now said of the state of affairs regarding his future, “Let’s see what happens. I declined the [contract] offer because I was not satisfied with my personal situation. I just saw no chance to develop. It would have been the wrong step, however, because the overall situation has changed.
“I am completely open on my future. Let’s see what happens. It is not the case that I will definitely go. I never said I would change clubs – let alone this summer – I just did not renew the contract.”
Schalke finished a disappointing 10th in the Bundesliga last term and the prospect of playing for team that can challenge for major silverware and that can offer Champions League football will surely appeal to Meyer.
