Sunderland complete the signing of 30-year-old

Sunderland have signed Dutch goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter on a two year deal and he will be a welcome addition to the troubled club after they lost their first and second choice goalkeeper from last season, Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone following relegation from the Premier League.

The former Utrecht keeper was a free agent and had a successful trial with the Black Cats, impressing during games against Bradford City and Scunthorpe United.

The 30-year-old Ruiter will now compete against Jason Steele for the first choice goalkeeping position at the club.

The Dutchmen will be eligible to compete against Derby in Sunderland’s first match of the Championship season and said his move, “I’m very pleased to be here because I had a great couple of days training with the team and played some good games, so I really wanted to sign and pleased I’m finally a Sunderland player.

“From the moment I stepped through the door everything was so professional. It’s such a big club and for me it was always a dream to play in England, so if a club like Sunderland comes and asks if you want to sign it’s a big chance.”
