According to Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham have shown interest in securing the services of Torino fullback Antonio Barreca for next season.
However, the huge demand for the highly-rated Italy youth international means Spurs have Roma and Monaco to contend with for his signature.
Amidst stiff competition last term, the 22-year-old left-back broke into Torino’s first team, starting 25 Serie A games and returning 2 assists.
Barreca’s extraordinary performances in the first half of the campaign saw him emerge as the best young player of 2016 according to the USSI (Unione Stampa Sportiva Italiana).
The youngster has four more years left on his contract, and won’t be available for cheap if Torino decide to listen to offers.
Predominantly a left-back, Barreca can also play as a left winger and as a right-back; meaning he can provide manager Mauricio Pochettino with options in those positions.
Tottenham are yet to get a deal over the line this summer, but the possibility of the Italian defender being the first choice is there, considering Pochettino’s preference for young signings.
