Aston Villa have named John Terry as the club captain for next season. The 36-year-old Terry succeeds James Chester as captain on the Villains and will be required to spearhead a Premier League promotion push for Steve Bruce’s side during the upcoming season.
Villa revealed in a statement, “Aston Villa are pleased to announce John Terry as captain. Terry will be skipper for the 2017-18 campaign.”
The veteran defender joined Villa after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season following a successful 22 year spell with the club.
The club will hope that the experience and leadership of the former England captain will be beneficial to their side next season.
Though Terry is now in his late 30’s, he still arguably has what it takes to compete at the highest level and turned down offers from Premier League clubs in order to play for Villa. It will be exciting to watch him in action next season.
