Legend urges Leeds United not to dwell over Garry Monk’s departure

Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has urged his former club to forget about the exit of manager Gary Monk and act quickly in appointing a successor.

The former Swansea boss departed from the Yorkshire club on Thursday after a disagreement with club owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Radrizzani was reportedly intent on offering Monk a new three year deal after the Whites exceeded expectations this season by challenging for a place in the promotion playoffs.

Gray said, “What you have got to say is that Garry did a good job for the football club. It’s disappointing that he has left and everybody will feel the same.

“But the club have got think onwards and upwards – they have got to get on with it and the quicker we get on with it as a football club the better we are going to be.”

Former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is currently the favorite to replace Monk as manager of The Whites. Other names that have been touted include Claudio Ranieri, Sam Allardyce and Nigel Pearson.

Monk will certainly not be short of offers, with Norwich City reportedly already targeting him at the moment.
