Oscar “El Conejo Perez started his career in 1993 and in his extensive career the Mexican goalkeeper has won two Liga MX titles, Three Gold Cups, One Confederations Cup and now a CONCACAF Champions League as well. Pachuca just defeated Tigres UANL in the final of the CCL and the win did not just mean that the ‘tuzos’ would play in the Club World Cup.
The victory also prolonged the already seemingly endless career of Oscar Perez. The 44-year-old, Perez will play at least another six months to get the opportunity to play in his first Club World Cup. Even at his age, there are still first for “El Conejo” and playing in the Club World Cup was an opportunity Perez did not want to pass up.
The veteran keeper can still make a difference out on the field and defy all odds that go against him. The three-time World Cup participant was a huge factor in Pachuca’s Clausura 2016 championship and is still vital in the most crucial moments. It will be fascinating to see another Liga MX tournament with a bald, middle-aged, 5-foot-8 goalkeeper stop shots from players who grew up watching him on TV. Oscar “El Conejo” Perez is another one of those gems that make the Liga MX what it is and we will enjoy his presence out on the field for at least six more months.
