David Moyes and Sunderland head to New York for team building on the back of their relegation fight suffering a setback after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Southampton.

Moyes hopes that the four day bonding trip will help create a renewed sense of team spirit within the squad ahead of the final games of the season which will determine whether the Black Cats remain in the Premier League or are relegated next season.

Sunderland faithful would have been hopeful of achieving something positive from the game after they beat Crystal Palace 4-0.

However it proved to be a horror show for Moyes and his charges against EFL Cup finalists Southampton and in the end the score was a reflection of the shambolic display from Sunderland.

The manager insisted that the defeat would not affect what he wants to achieve from the bonding trip. He said according to ESPN, “We have got some time together. Look, a lot of teams who are out of the FA Cup are doing different things and we are doing something as well.”
