Managing director of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Laurie Darlymple has stated that though the club wish to retain West Ham target Helder Costa, they cannot assure that the player will not be sold. According to reports West Ham and Everton have been monitoring the 23-year-old during recent months.
During his interview with the Express and Star, Darlymple said, “He’s not been bought just to be sold on. My understanding and my belief is we’ve bought him on a long term deal because we want him to be a big part of this club going forward.
“I’d be a bit of a fraud if I said he’s definitely not going anywhere in the summer because I don’t know that about anyone in the squad. But I certainly wouldn’t want to lose someone of his ability having just made such a big statement by bringing him in.”
This will certainly come as a boost to West Ham fans who hope that the club will lure the player. It also appears that Wolves are knowing that they may be forced to sell.
Despite only joining Wolves for £13 million in August, Wolves included a £25 million release clause on the player’s contract which means that they will be likely to cash in should they have to sell him.
Costa has been impressive this season notching 8 goals and 10 assists from 30 matches in all competitions. With Wolves sitting 18th in the Championship, he will surely want to play for a club in the Premier League and which has better players.
