Mark Warburton’s job at Rangers possibly on the line

Mark Warburton might be one of the unluckiest men in football right now. Or he’s just doomed to fail. Whatever it is, his tenure at Rangers is hanging by a thread as they are now facing a difficult task in the coming week.

Warburton seemed to indicate, albeit cryptically to the press, that he and the board were not on the greatest of terms back on transfer deadline day. No moves were made, and they did desperately need them. Instead they got nothing.

The players they did get were essentially gifts given to Warburton by former colleagues and friends via loans. Now, he’s in trouble as his side have dropped out of the top two spots in the league.

This means that Rangers would miss out on Champions League qualification totally, and that’s simply not acceptable at this stage for the club as they are desperate for financial help.

With the league position not so good, he can ill afford to lose to Morton, a Scottish Championship side, in the Scottish Cup this weekend. They must show well, and they must continue to move forward or they may well be moving on from Warburton.
