New Nottingham Forest player Gboly Ariyibi has admitted that leaving Chesterfield was sad for him though he is glad to now be a player for Forest.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Ariyibi said, “You know, I’ve had some good memories here and met some great people. The fans have been great.
“I’m obviously delighted with the news. Forest are a big club, it’s a great step in my career, and anyone in my position, I’m sure would have done the same thing.”
“When I signed at the age of 19, the club (Chesterfield) gave me a chance to show myself. Thanks for all the support, when they were cheering my name, it’s been a great three years.”
The 22-year-old winger has signed a three year deal with Forest after playing with Chesterfield since 2014. Ariyibi had been linked with a move to Derby County during the summer. Chesterfield however refused to let him go and decided that now was the best time to sell him as his contract was expiring at the end of the season.
The former United States under-23 international netted four times from 81 appearances in all competitions during his time with Chesterfield.
Considering that Ariyibi is moving a division up to the Championship from League one, moving to Nottingham Forest was definitely the correct decision. He became the fifth player to arrive at the City Ground last week after Zach Clough, Ross McCormack, Joao Teixeira and Aaron Tshibola also joined.
