Nigel Clough reveals what kept him away from the Nottingham Forest Job

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has told BBC Radio Derby that he would have been open to accepting the Nottingham Forest managerial position had Burton been faring better in the Championship.

Clough said, “If we’d have been half way up the table and nearly safe by now it might have been a different question to consider [joining Nottingham Forest].” That is, if Burton would have been in a better position, Clough would have likely joined Nottingham Forest.

The former Forest player was involved in talks with Nottm Forest and admits that he was attracted with their offer to manage them. The unpopular owner of Nottm Forest, Fawaz Al Hasawi remains in control of the club for now, after a proposed takeover by an American consortium fell through last month.

Clough has emphasized that his decision had nothing to do with either Nottingham Forest nor Al Hasawi. It was made for the good of Albion, who are aiming to avoid relegation from the Championship this season; Burton are currently occupying the 21st position. Though they are three points safe of the relegation zone, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan who are in the relegation zone, have one and two games in hand over them respectively.
