Defender could make a return to Stoke City this month

According to Wolfsburg Sporting Director Olaf Rebbe, the club may be shipping back on-loan Stoke City center back Philipp Wollscheid a few months earlier than expected. Rebbe stated: “We will discuss the situation with him in the next few days.”

Wollscheid, since signing the loan deal on August 31st of last year, has only made three appearances this season with the Bundesliga club.

To make matters worse, he then had a falling out with the manager last month. What exactly that was over is unknown, but it likely had something to do with his lack of playing time.

Given Stoke’s central defense of late, Wollscheid won’t just walk into the team- or the squad. With Bruno Martins Indi and Ryan Shawcross in good form, they will not be budged.

Marc Muniesa is in the queue behind them if needed, so Wollscheid will once again find himself playing fourth fiddle. Expect him to rot away on the bench or be given away for next to nothing.
