Manchester United start Henrikh Mkhitaryan could have lined up for Liverpool at Old Trafford this Sunday.
In his recent interview with the Daily Mail, the scorpion-kick boy admitted he came close to joining Liverpool from Shakhtar Donetsk 2013. He reportedly had attracted interest from both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund after a number of attractive displays, which he has now confirmed.
In his struggle to turn Liverpool into serious Premier League title contenders, Rodgers had planned to build a side that was impeccable, around Suarez, Gerrard, Sterling, and Mkhitaryan, but the Armenian said he felt more comfortable in signing for Dortmund in the early stage of his career.
Mkhitaryan became an integral part of Dortmund’s final two seasons under Klopp, tucking in 18 goals in 88 games, before moving to Manchester United this summer. He reunited with his former boss on Sunday, regaining his position in the starting eleven under Jose Mourinho.
