Monarcas Morelia got off to a great start in the first week of the Liga MX as they managed to defeat Xolos of Tijuana by a score of 2-0. The win was unexpected and is key in Morelia’s fight to remain in the Liga MX and away from relegation. While Morelia did win the game, they really did not look the best in the game. Raul Ruidiaz clearly needed some type of support other than the players that already surround him. While Rodolfo Vilchis and Cristian Penilla did look solid, they can only do so much as midfielders.
Monarcas fulfilled the deed of getting Ruidiaz a strike partner today by signing 22-year old, Andy Polo. The Peruvian international is coming from Millonarios of Colombia where he scored two goals in 11 appearances. Andy made his professional debut at the age of 16, with Universitario in the Peruvian league. Since then Polo has played in the top leagues of Peru and Colombia and with the Peruvian national team as well. “La Joya” even received international attention as he was once part of Inter Milan’s roster back in 2014.
Polo can prove to be the perfect strike partner for Ruidiaz as he has been known to have rapid pace and be very skillful as a playmaker. That, combined with Ruidiaz’s deadly finishing, can prove to be very helpful in Morelia’s fight to remain in the top flight of Mexican soccer. The Peruvian strike force should be one to look out for in weeks to come going forward in the Clausura 2017.
