Manchester United legend rips into Liverpool star

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius following his horror show against Bournemouth.

Despite leading 3-1 in the second half, Liverpool endured a remarkable collapse to suffer an extremely disappointing 4-3 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.

While Bournemouth most certainly should be credited for mounting such a wonderful comeback, it has to be said that Liverpool were the architects of their own downfall during the encounter and goalkeeper Loris Karius needs to be held accountable for the defeat.

Karius never looked confident throughout the clash and was directly at fault for two goals that Liverpool conceded, including Nathan Ake’s winner during the last minute.

Following the game, Karius has understandably been subjected to a lot of criticism and now Manchester United legend Gary Neville has gone on to slam the German.

Karius slammed by Neville

Neville bluntly stated that Karius is simply not good enough for Liverpool and stated that the 23-year-old transmits anxiety rather than confidence. The Sky Sports pundit was quoted saying by the Daily Mail, “I think it’s tough to win the league without a good goalkeeper. He’s not good enough. You could see that against United, he looked nervous. He isn’t good enough.

“He might get better in the next 12-18 months, but you watch [Thibuat] Courtois yesterday, Courtois is good enough. That presence, catch the ball that comes into the six-yard box, kick the ball that comes to you, do the simple things well.

“Goalkeepers can transmit anxiety all around the ground and all through a team. The likes of Karius and [Maarten] Stekelenburg, that’s what they do. They’re good at it.

“They basically do things that unsettle everybody, the crowd then start getting a little panicky. Whereas Courtois, [David] de Gea now, [Edwin] van der Sar, those types of goalkeepers you trust them, they’re reliable and the types you do win leagues with. The challenge for Liverpool is the defence – always has been for the last few years – and also now the goalkeeper as well.”
