Manchester United ask national team not to play star player

Mkhitaryan

Manchester United have asked the Armenian Football Federation (FFA) to let Henrikh Mkhitaryan stay in Manchester in order to finish his rehabilitation from a thigh muscle injury that forced him out of United’s last few games, as reported by Reuters.

Mkhitaryan is still recovering from his injury and United feel he’s not fit enough to play in Armenia’s World Cup qualifiers against Romania and Poland.

“Henrikh is still undergoing late stage rehabilitation from the left thigh muscle injury that he sustained earlier this month whilst playing for Manchester United,” Steve McNally, United’s head of medicine, said in a statement to the FFA.

“In view of that I would be grateful if he could be allowed to withdraw from the National Team for the forthcoming training camp and FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches in order to remain in Manchester to complete his rehabilitation.”

Mkhitaryan missed Manchester United’s last 6 games in all competitions due to the thigh injury and looks set to miss his national team’s World Cup qualifiers as well.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has been frustrated in his efforts to establish himself in Mourinho’s starting eleven as soon as possible at the start of the season.

He’s only started one game for United so far, but will be hoping to kick-start his season against Liverpool on October 17th.

United definitely need his quick thinking an creativity and Jose Mourinho could even choose to play him behind the striker as Marcus Rashford has been doing pretty well on the right wing.

He’s unlikely to start at Liverpool, but if he makes the bench it would still be good news for United.
