Manchester United lose promising player to Premier League rivals

Old Trafford

West Ham United have announced the signing of Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher on a four-year deal on a free transfer.

Fletcher’s decision to join another English club on a free transfer means Manchester United are due a compensation fee.

The two clubs will have to agree a fee for the striker’s services, otherwise the compensation will be settled by a tribunal.

Fletcher, who leaves Manchester United after 7 years at the club, has expressed his delight at signing for West Ham.

“I am very excited to be here. West Ham are a massive club and I am just happy that I can come and further my development here at WestHam.

“I think it is a Club with a lot of ambition. They have a lot of good players and it was a special final season. They managed to finish the campaign very well.

“West Ham are a Club built on traditions of giving youngsters a run and hopefully I can get my chance as well.”

Manchester United offered Fletcher a new deal last month following his impressive loan spell at Barnsley, but the 20-year-old has rejected the chance to stay at Old Trafford and can now look forward to making an impact at West Ham.

Fletcher will probably get enough chances to impress Slaven Bilic, especially considering the capital club’s Europa League commitments next season.

The young striker is unlikely to be a regular first-team starter just yet, but it’s a very good signing for West Ham as Fletcher has shown enough promise to justify the move.
