Newcastle United have announced the signing of Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Hayden has expressed his delight at signing for Newcastle United and has vowed to help the club return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
“Newcastle is a massive football club and to be given the opportunity to come here and progress my career is fantastic,” Hayden told Newcastle’s official website.
“Being at Arsenal was a great experience, I learnt a lot there and have a lot to thank them for, but I needed to move on and so when Newcastle came in for me I jumped at the chance.
“I am still young but I want to get as many games under my belt as I can and help the team bounce back to the Premier League.
Newcastle’s manager, Rafael Benitez, has welcomed Hayden to the club and has outlined the importance of the player’s versatility.
“We continue with our plan to bring in players who are hungry to succeed and prove themselves, which Isaac really is.
“He is also a player who can play in different positions, which is very useful. Isaac is a young, strong English player with fantastic potential but also with some experience already of the Championship. We welcome him to the Club.”
The 21-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Hull City and made 24 appearances as the Tigers won promotion to the Premier League, thanks to a 1-0 playoff final win over Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley.
Hayden left Southend United for Arsenal 8 years ago and made his professional debut for the Gunners in their League Cup 3rd round game against West Bromwich Albion on September 25th, 2013.
However, the defender failed to establish himself in Arsenal’s first team and now he’s left the club permanently following his impressive loan spell at Hull City.
It’s a good move for Hayden as he’ll be able to continue his development by playing regular first-team football for an ambitious Championship side.
