Looking at the final standings of the 2015/16 season and it is safe to assume for a neutral fan that the Gunners fared well last season.
Despite their annual collapse in the title race – and their ritual exit from the knockout stages of the Champions League, the Gunners were able to salvage their reputation with a 2nd place finish.
However, barring the Arsene Wenger supporters who are clearly a minority now, most of the Arsenal fan base were booing their club in the penultimate game of last season.
The fact that Olivier Giroud had just scored a hat-trick – after undergoing a barren spell in the last 15 games, did little to soothe their nerves.
Thus, if Arsene Wenger doesn’t want to hear boos ringing around the Emirates next season, the French boss has to make sure that Arsenal make a genuine title challenge.
Here are 3 things Arsenal need to do to win the Premier League title next season …
3 Buy a central defender
On paper, Arsenal have a fairly good central defense with the French, Brazilian and German defenders guarding the goal-keeper.
However, barring Laurent Koscielny, both Mertesacker and Paulista failed to deliver on the big stage last season.
Also, if Arsene Wenger isn’t impressed by the aforementioned argument, a cursory glance at the title winning side of Leicester should clarify to him the point.
Contrary to the popular belief, the Foxes didn’t win the title because of Vardy, Mahrez, and Okazaki. Rather, they did it because of Morgan, Huth, and Fuchs.
Thus, if Wenger wants his team to lift the iconic trophy next season, he should kick-start his summer spending spree by capturing a defender.
2 Departure of Rosicky and Arteta should beckon the arrival of a defensive midfielder
No matter how slick the likes of Ozil and Sanchez play up front, Arsenal need a defensive midfielder vicious enough to break the attacks of the opposition.
Coquelin is good but even if he plays the whole season without getting injured– a prospect which looks bleak, the Gunners need new steel in their defensive midfield department.
1 After the Injury to Welbeck, a new striker is a must
Prior to scoring a hat-trick against Aston Villa on the penultimate weekend of last season, Giroud didn’t manage to score a single goal in the last 14 appearances combined.
That stat should epitomize the importance of signing a new striker to Arsene Wenger.
And now that Wenger won’t have the luxury of selecting Welbeck, as the English striker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, it would be foolish if Arsenal goes into next season without signing a striker.
In addition to the injury of Welbeck, the striking department of Arsenal isn’t comparable with the other top sides.
With Manchester United having Martial, Rooney, and Rashford, Manchester City having Aguero and Liverpool and Chelsea also self-sufficient, the Gunners need to add goals to their team by signing a top class striker in the coming transfer window.
