Ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has criticized the selection of Antonio Conte’s appointment as The Blues’ boss for next season. According to Chris Sutton, the Italian is too similar to Jose Mourinho.
Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live, “If the players have downed tools before there is every suggestion that, with Conte being a similar type of Mourinho, they will down tools again.”
According to Sutton, Conte’s character is the same as his predecessor. Someone who doesn’t take any nonsense from anybody. Antonio arrives at Stamford Bridge as a disciplinarian and demands the same from his players. He is there to tighten the Chelsea squad. Sutton is critical of Chelsea’s choice for choosing Conte as next permanent manager.
Sutton added,” Who is going to want to go to Chelsea? How are they going to attract good players?”, referring to Blues’ absence from Champions League next season. He insists that signing top players would be tough as Chelsea are nowhere near to a Champions League spot. Conte would definitely need heavy attacking force and tough defence to kick off his era at Stamford Bridge if he is to regain Chelsea’s lost pride.
