Good decision by Roman to back Jose Mourinho

Mourinho

The win against Norwich on Saturday saw the champions return to winning ways ending a three match losing streak. Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea side will be hoping to build from their victory against the Canaries as their quest to climb up the table continues. Mourinho is still hopeful that his side will finish within the top 4. In the last few weeks the champions seem to be gaining their confidence and getting back to the form which saw them lift the league cup and league title last season. Has the backing of the chairman and the board helped Mourinho and his troops in turning the season around?

The Portuguese has been under fire after a disastrous start to the season which sees the champions occupy the 15th position on the log. The Blues have tasted seven defeats in 13 league games and there were reports that the Portuguese was close to his second exit at Stamford Bridge. However, the club has since issued a statement declaring their full backing of the master tactician. Roman Abramovich is a man known to be impatient with managers who don’t produce positive results. Under the Roman’s era there has been chopping and changing of managers at the Bridge. This time, however, it seems as though the Russian billionaire has learned from his past mistakes and publicly declared his support for Mourinho. There has been reports linking big names to the manager’s position in west London, but it’s almost certain that the Portuguese is staying put at the capital.

One would argue that the west Londoners chose stability over trophies this season by backing Mourinho. The only silverware the club can vie for this season is the FA Cup and the Champions League as it seems virtually impossible to challenge for the title. Club technical director, Michael Emenalo further announced the club’s support for the manager and confirmed that the club has a long-term plan in place. With the club opting to stay with three-time Barclays Premier League winning manager it’s a sign that they want to maintain consistency at the club and it could pay dividends in the near future and beyond . Stability is what made Manchester United one of the most respected clubs in the world under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson. In modern football, managers rotate around the same clubs and one could argue “until when will Chelsea continue to chop and change managers?” It’s not every season that a club will win titles and it seems as though Roman and his board know better now.

When the ‘Special One’ made his second coming at the Bridge he asserted that he would like to stay for a longer period at the club and Roman and his board of directors seem to want to see the same thing by backing him.
