Louis van Gaal managed Manchester United to a crucial 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in Champions League action midweek. United finally scored one goal, but will still need to pick up their goal scoring form if they are looking to make a run deep into Champions League play.
Reports suggest they may be looking to shore up their scoring punch during a transfer window, but now will rely on Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney for those goals. The Red Devils return to Premier League action this Saturday, as they host West Brom, who sit 12th in the Premier League table.
Here is the strongest possible lineup for Manchester United on Saturday-
Goalkeeper
David de Gea had another great game against CSKA Moscow during the week, and added to his collection of clean sheets in the process.
He, along with Chris Smalling, have been the two outstanding rocks for Louis van Gaal for much of the season.
Defence
Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, and Marcos Rojo, all started at the back on Tuesday, and we should see more of the same.
Matteo Darmian remains out due to suspension, so Young will resume his role as right back.
The back four played quite well against Moscow, especially Smalling, who made a crucial sliding block late in the match to help secure the win.
Midfield
Michael Carrick was restored back to the starting 11 and was paired with Bastian Schweinsteiger on Tuesday, however, Morgan Schneiderlin will most likely be back and paired with Schweinsteiger.
In the attacking positions, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, and Jesse Lingard all started and will most likely start once again, as the attack looked fairly good for much of the match. Rooney scored a crucial goal late in the match to help secure the win, as he was set up beautifully from a lob pass from Lingard.
Memphis Depay, who featured regularly early in the season, made an appearance off the bench midweek, however, his Premier League form is still questionable to say the least.
Attack
Anthony Martial finally made his return to leading the line for United, but did not have that great of match, and subsequently made way for Marouane Fellaini, which was greeted by a chorus of boos from the Old Trafford faithful.
With no other natural striker in form at the moment or featuring often, Martial will be trusted by van Gaal to get his name back on the score sheet.
