Ibracadabra conquers Paris

Zlatan Ibrahimovic became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading goalscorer after scoring two penalties that gave his side the 2-1 win over Marseille. The Sweden captain’s second goal tallied 110 overall since joining the French team back in 2012 from A.C. Milan, giving him one more than previous record holder, Portuguese legend Pauleta. It took Pauleta five years and 211 official games to score 109 goals at the club, Ibrahimovic just needed 137 games to surpass that total.

The former Milan player reached this milestone the day after his 34th birthday as PSG continue to be the Ligue 1 leaders.

Marseille opened the scoring through a Michy Batshuayi header who easily beat Brazilian defender David Luiz in the area and was assisted by a Abdel Barrada cross in the 30th minute. The Parisians leveled shortly after as Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda fouled the big Swede in the box, only for Zlatan himself to convert the penalty with a low strike to the center.

Three minutes after, another penalty was conceded by Rolando with a handball in the area. Once again Zlatan converted the penalty with a shot to the bottom left corner.

The Marseille based club missed the opportunity to level it following the break when Abdelaziz Barrada‘s penalty was save by Kevin Trapp. Also missing an opportunity in the last minutes as Remy Cabella had another chance but was denied by Trapp, leaving Marseille in 16th place on eight total points.

This turns out to be PSG’s eight straight win over Marseille, putting Laurent Blanc’s side on 23 points from 9 possible games and ahead of newly promoted side Angers by five points after beating Bastia 1-0 on Saturday.

The league table stands with Paris Saint-Germain on top, followed by Angers and Caen. Olympique Lyon currently sit in 6th place, Monaco are 10th, and on the relegation scrap Montpellier, Troyes and GFC Ajaccio currently stand.
