Dreamland for Spurs as they Beat Manchester City 4-1 at the Lane

Spurs fans must feel like they are still sleeping and dreaming of glory after seeing their side beat the league leaders 4-1. After conceding a horrible opening goal, Spurs were able to nick a controversial goal right before the half and after that the rest was history.

After a poor giveaway on a short corner by Kyle Walker, Yaya Toure led a powerful full pitch counter attack and eventually assisted Kevin De Bruyne down the right who confidently slotted it across Lloris for the opening score. Lloris was then called upon numerous times later in the first half, highlighting his performance with a wonderful one handed save at full stretch against Aguero.

Right before the half though, after bring ruled incorrectly onside, Kyle Walker fired the ball across to an open Son who was denied by Cabellero. But while City’s defense was busy arguing with ref, De Bruyne made a sloppy pass that found Eric Dier who let loose from thirty yards knocking it off the post and in. A stunning end to the half that City was never able to recover from.

In the second half, City’s form fell and Spurs pounced. Alderweireld converted an excellent header from a set piece to make it 2-1. Cabellero was at fault after rushing off his line and missing the ball, leaving City fans to question why Joe Hart was sitting on the bench.

And then eleven minutes later, in the 61st minute, after Eriksen’s delicious free-kick came flying back off the bar, Kane was able to get the monkey off his back netting his first goal of the season into an empty net.

The camera then flashed to a jovial Roy Hodgson smiling in the stands like his son had just scored a goal; the England manager and England and Spurs fans alike will all be breathing a sigh of relief after seeing their striker end his drought.

Then with ten minutes left in the game, after a wonderful turn by new signing Clinton N’jie, he found an open Erik Lamela in the box who patiently waited for the goalie and defender to dive in before confidently slotting in Spurs fourth goal. A dream game for Spurs with Kane’s goal a cherry on the top.

For a City a game to forget. A strange move by Pellgrini opting to start Caballero over Joe Hart, who was not convincing in the loss. Captain Vincent Kompany was a late scratch from the bench due to an illness after returning from injury, while David Silva was sorely missed but should return soon.

Set pieces and a slow start to the second half cost City dearly, and while they will feel hard down by the missed offside call that led to the first goal, City fans should be worried by the second half performance.

Levy looks to have finally gotten the signings right this summer and for Spurs fans it must feel as if the puzzle is coming together. With a strong center back pairing and a young attacking fleet, Spurs should be challenging for Champions League this year. Three points always feel good, but even better when had against City, add four goals and a Kane goal on top of that, and well, Spurs fans are dreaming.
