Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Kiko Casilla from RCD Espanyol, after weeks of speculation. The transfer will cost around 6,5 million euros, although there’s a chance Real could loan them a youngster on top of the money. Kiko announced in a press conference that he would return to his former club, and he’s expected to travel to Australia shortly to join his new teammates.
Not nearly as exciting as De Gea or other top level keeper, Los Blancos’ have completed this signing because they were lacking another competitive player. Without Casillas, Navas is expected to be the starter, yet the arrival of Casilla adds a bit of competition and a good alternative for the coach.
Casilla is the type of #1 that Benítez likes, as he’s tall. The Catalonia native performs greatly in aerial plays, especially confident in set pieces. Even with his height, he has great reflexes and is very agile inside the box. In paper, he sounds like a good addition to the squad. Nevertheless, he needs to prove he can do well in a top club.
His arrival will be a temporary solution until the end of the transfer market, as the De Gea drama won’t end until the window closes. Kiko will arrive with the hopes of being important, much like Diego López did back in the day. Fans will need to keep waiting for that galáctico signing, if it even comes at all.
