‘ALPINE MESSI’ set for Arsenal

Arsenal will look to bring in Swiss and Bayern sensation Xherdan Shaqiri for around 10 million pounds in the January transfer window, beating out English rivals Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has an unbelievable 10 million pound buyout clause in his contract with the German powerhouse, a fee so low Arsenal could be forced to pull the trigger on a deal even though attacking reinforcements are not on their to-do list this winter.

Bayern manager Pep Guardiola is against the move but he may not have much of a say in the matter if Arsenal and Munich bosses come to terms on a deal.

Shaqiri himself would welcome a chance at more first team action. After starring for the Swiss national team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, he has seen the pitch sparingly back in Germany, starting just three matches.

If a move to London is made official, Shaqiri would be happy to pair with Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck in an up tempo attack more suited to his style.

However, playing time may not be easy to find with the Gunners either as Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott will both return in the near future from injuries that have kept them out for an extended time. Keeping the likes of Ozil and Walcott on the bench will be a very tall order for any player and a task Shaqiri may decide against.

Joel Campbell, another midfield World Cup star that was looking to impress in the new Premier League season for Arsenal, has not seen the pitch much either, which could scare the player away from a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have been discussing defensive cover leading up to this point so it may come as a surprise that they would want to bring in yet another young attacker, but with such a low cost, and with the player showing such promise at to this point in his career it may be too much for the Gunners to pass up.

If Arsene Wenger has already made decisions regarding personnel for next season, he could already have a spot for the Swiss star in mind. Or this could be a dig at rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, who are both very interested in boosting their own offensive options.

Wenger has already admitted his side will be very active in the upcoming transfer window so this could very well turn out to be a move that is made.
