Manchester United eye shock swoop for International Legend to solve defensive woes

The reopening of the transfer window is less than six weeks away and as a result it has been no surprise to see a plethora of rumors emerging in recent times.

One club which never stops being linked with various names is Manchester United and as the transfer window approaches closer, it is widely expected that the Red Devils will be touted to make a move for every imaginable player available in the market.

Although United vice-chairman Ed Woodward had recently stated that his side will not make a splash in the January transfer window due to the losses incurred by the Red Devils over the last three months, it is widely believed that manager Louis van Gaal will look to bring in a new defender.

While a central defender will be high on the priority list for van Gaal, reinforcements in the full back positions also look necessary.

Recently it was reported that United are monitoring Barcelona star Dani Alves and now it has been claimed that the Red Devils are also eyeing a shock swoop for Croatian legend Darijo Srna.

According to reports emerging out of England, Srna has been offered to Manchester United by intermediaries on a short-term deal and that the Red Devils are seriously pondering making a move for the right back as cover for Rafael.

Srna is a vastly experienced defender who has played with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for over a decade now. An absolute legendary figure at Shakhtar, Srna had reportedly rejected the advances of Bayern Munich and Chelsea over the past few years.

Having resisted a host of top clubs during his prime, it remains to be seen whether Srna would be looking to make a move at the age of 32. However, it is believed that the Croatian international is still hoping to experience playing in one of the top European leagues and could be tempted by a spell at Manchester United.

Due to his advancing years, Srna may not exactly be the kind of player United usually look to purchase but given his vast experience allied by the Red Devils’ injury problems at the back – the recruitment of the 32-year old on a short term deal would not be the worst transfer in the world.
