Olivier Giroud’s apparently broken ankle will probably drive him out of the pitch for about three months, something that will certainly force Arsenal’s boss Arsene Wenger to look for an urgent solution during the remaining days of the Summer transfer window, in order to offer his team more firepower up in the front.
Giroud’s injury will almost certainly precipitate the arrival of another forward to the Emirates Stadium over the last days of the Summer transfer window and there are already some names upon the table: Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Queens Park Rangers’ Loic Remy.
Welbeck’s life at the Red Devils has definitely not been easy ever since Van Gaal allegedly considered him to be “surplus” and he is apparently considering placing him on the transfer market. At the age of 23, the once promising English international is currently at a deadlock and recent reports from the media have linked him with Tottenham and claim that he will be signing a deal with the Spurs in the next couple of days.
On the opposite side of the table there is the Frenchman Loic Remy. The QPR 27-year old striker has experienced some unique moments during this pre-season, as he was ready to sign a deal with Liverpool, but ended up failing his medicals with the club. QPR’s boss, Harry Redknapp, has recently claimed that it might be extremely complicated to hold the Frenchman at the club for another season, since Remy as expressed his desire to be part of a team playing in the UEFA Champions League.
According to the media, Arsenal are apparently willing to offer QPR somewhat around £8 million for Remy, although the wage demands made by the French International have apparently refrained Arsene Wenger’s interest.
With only very few and probably inconsistent solutions in his squad to mitigate Giroud’s absence, Wenger has already stopped the departure of the German forward Lukas Podolski, who had been recently linked with several Europeans and even with some MLS teams. The French manager needs a powerful and skilled centre forward able to play alone in the box for his tactical system to work smoothly and, with Giroud sidelined, the only player capable of performing such task is the 21-year old Yaya Sanogo.
