The future of Arsenal’s right back, Bacary Sagna, seems to be uncertain. His contract finishes at the end of the season, and according to the Daily Star and Mirror, the Frenchman wants an improvement in his earnings and a long-term contract: £100,000 per week and a three-year contract is what Sagna asks for staying in Arsenal after this season finishes. Those numbers are far from what Arsenal offered him – a two year contract for £60,000, which is close to his current wage.

Sagna has been refusing to sign any contract in the last seasons, so he’s clearly been demanding a higher contract during the last couple of years. As the sources say, the player is disappointed, because Arsenal didn’t offer him a good contract renewal, as a reward for his good performance and his loyalty to the club.

According to Daily Star, a person close to the defender said:  “He will leave 100 per cent for sure unless Arsenal wake up in the next couple of months and offer him new good terms. It would have to be in the region of £6m a season on a three to four year contract, plus a signing-on fee of around £6m.”

Bac is 31 years old. He played for Auxerre from 2004 to 2007 and for Arsenal since then – 268 matches with 5 goals. He is also a usual player in the French national team (he was at the three matches of South Africa World Cup, and played six games for France in 2013).

In case that Sagna leaves, Arsenal will have to sign another right back if they want to continue fighting for important titles. They have Carl Jenkinson, but he’s only 22 and hadn’t showed great skills so far. He can be an excellent player in the future for sure, but relying on him as the first choice for next season would be very risky.

Arsène Wenger wants him to stay, of course, but will Arsenal and Sagna reach an agreement? If they don’t, apparently many clubs -like PSG, Inter and Galatasaray, among others- will be interested in the French right-back.
