Liverpool defender, Martin Skrtel, has been a key player in Liverpool’s defence. The Slovakian defender, who joined Liverpool from Zenit St. Petersburg, has shown his loyalty to his club for over 6 years.

However, he said that he almost left Liverpool for another club last summer. It was the former Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, who persuaded him to join Napoli, but finally, he decided to stay with Liverpool.

“It wasn’t easy for me after last season because I was on the bench in the second part of the season and that was something new for me,” said Skrtel (Mirror).

Furthermore, he said, “I would be lying if I didn’t say I was thinking (about leaving), but it is not easy to leave a club like Liverpool because they are still one of the best in the world.”

Now he has forced his way to win back his position as a center back. The 29-year-old defender has been in a good form and he even scored twice on Saturday’s 5 – 1 demolition of Arsenal.

Skrtel also shows his optimism about what Liverpool will achieve at the end of the season. With 12 games left to play, he believes that Liverpool can get a lot of points in the remaining games and finish, at least, at the top four.

He said, “We will try to get as many points as we can. We are fighting for the top four and the result against Arsenal showed we are ready for the battle.”

So, Martin Skrtel is still an important figure for Liverpool and in return, he shows his loyalty by staying with the club for almost 6 years. He also shows his optimism about Liverpool’s achievement towards the end of the season.
