The Pumas vs Puebla Liga MX match will be held this Sunday, January 5, 2014 (10:00 AM Pacific) at the Estadio C.U. Both teams want to start off the new season on the right foot, and forget the failures of the Apertura 2013.

Pumas, clean slate and new players

Pumas acquired former team stars, players like Leandro Augusto and Dante Lopez, in order to attempt to earn a spot in the playoffs, which is their main goal. Daniel Ludueña has also joined the team, coming from Pachuca, and players like Ismael Sosa and Diego Lagos are coming from Argentina, seeking to end the lack of goals from previous seasons.

Pumas’ last pre-season match was against Puebla, playing for the Cuna del Futbol tournament final held in Pachuca; Puebla came out victorious. Coach Jose Luis Trejo has a great challenge at hand, trying to bring a team with history back into the first pages.

Puebla, ready for a new season

Having won the tournament Cuna del Futbol held in Pachuca, Puebla feels confident under the direction of Ruben Omar Romano; with plans of fixing up their stadium and with a new match kit, Puebla will face Pumas with a fresh face.

Ruben Omar Romano can count with players like Matias Alustiza and Alfredo Moreno to try and defeat the Pumas defense. Puebla is also looking for a spot in the playoffs, and they will look for points from the very beginning.

Pumas vs Puebla Prediction

This will be a slow game, given that this is the first match of the season, and both squads will still be sluggish from the long pre-season. Although Puebla won a pre-season match against Pumas, the Liga MX is a totally different scenario, and we can expect a much closer game. I predict a tight match that ends with a 1-1 draw.
