The future of the Mexican star, Giovani Dos Santos, has finally been decided as he will join Villarreal CF from La Liga. Dos Santos played last season for Mallorca, but the Spanish club was relegated into the Liga Adelante which prompted Dos Santos to move to a first division club. The Mexican international will play for the “yellow submarine” for the next four seasons.
In a press conference to welcome new signing Aleksandar Pantic, Villarreal president Fernando Roig announced that Dos Santos will also be joining the squad. During the past month, much had been rumored as to where Dos Santos would play the next season. At first, the Los Angeles Galaxy had made it public that they had made a serious offer for the player. If Dos Santos had joined the MLS it would had been great for the league, however, it may not had been the best in the player’s interests.
After the LA Galaxy made their offer, Villarreal also made it known that they were going to attempt and sign the offensive midfielder. Also in the past week, Valencia was added to the teams interested in the player. Finally, Villarreal won the signing battle, and they will now count with one of the most dynamic players in La Liga.
During the 2012-2013 season, Dos Santos suffered at the beginning with injuries, but as the season grew older he became Mallorca’s top playmaker and scored 6 goals in 29 appearances. His move to Villarreal will be a good chance to finally hold on to a single team for longer than a year. In the past 7 years he has moved to 7 different teams; FC Barcelona, Tottenham, Ipswich Town, Galatasaray, Racing Santander, Mallorca, and now Villarreal.
With the yellow submarine, Dos Santos will have the opportunity to play along Mexican midfielder Javier Aquino. These two players will be crucial in Villarreal’s performance during the 2013-2014 season where the team will look to perform well in their return to La Liga.
