Mexico vs Jamaica 0 – 0, February 6, 2013 Highlights

The Mexico vs Jamaica CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match this Wednesday, February 6, 2013 was a game of huge contrasts.  Let’s begin with the home team, the booed Mexico.  As large favorites to take 1st place in the hexagonal, Mexico went into the game with the idea that they were to dominate, win, and even score many goals.  Instead, they could not complete simple passes, the coach’s subs did not make a difference, and the huge Estadio Azteca was at half capacity and it did not pressure the rival.  These lead to a boring 0-0 tie for the ‘tri’.

Jamaica on the other hand had their best showing in their history when playing in the Mexican capital.  They styled a defensive scheme in which the counter-attack would dominate the offense.  They were balanced, had strong mentality, and had the clearest opportunities to score.  In other words, Jamaica was a great rival who knew how to play against CONCACAF’s giant, and if it weren’t for poor offensive shots, they would have left with the ‘Aztecazo’.

Therefore, the Mexico vs Jamaica game was a game of contrasts because on one side was the clear favorite Mexico who was booed by their own fans for a good chunk of the match.  On the other was Jamaica who made history, and who now turns into a clear competitor to win a spot in the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
