Miguel Sabah transfer to Chivas

Miguel Sabah is the latest addition to the Chivas de Guadalajara roster, the experienced Mexican forward is a badly needed reinforcement. Chivas scored just 17 goals in 17 matches this past season, the young forwards Van’t Schip was forced to use simply weren’t up to the task.

The 33 year old Mexican striker, Sabah, has a proven goal scoring track record in the Mexican league. In 132 appearances with his previous team, Morelia, Sabah scored 64 goals, a little over 1 goal for every 2 games.

Miguel Sabah is the type of forward that Chivas needed, the advanced forward, who can play with his back to the goal and facilitate the attack, while at the same time being lethal when given the opportunity to score. When you add the fact that Marquez Lugo and Marco Fabian will also be there to help the offense, you can see that this new Chivas offense should be able to average more than 1 goal per game.

The addition of this experienced striker also adds extra pressure to what remains of Cruyff’s failed Dutch experiment, Van’t Schip. He decided to remain on the team after the man who put him there was fired; many in the Mexican media have accused Van’t Schip of staying simply for the money (he gets more if he’s fired rather than quits). I profusely disagree, I believe Van’t Schip truly believes in his players, and wanted to stay on to lead them to greater things.

However, with the addition of Sabah, there will be less of an excuse for Van’t Schip to state that he “needs better players”. Knowing Vergara’s history, if Chivas doesn’t start the Clausura 2013 well, Van’t Schip will be sent off in a matter of weeks. For now, Chivas fans can have hope of a better season, as Sabah is an experienced striker who should be able to make a difference.
