Kevin Phillips has revealed that he can see Sunderland being relegated to League One this season.
Following their relegation from the Premier League last term, the Black Cats face the threat of back-to-back relegations as they are currently in 23rd position on the Championship standings with 25 points from 30 games and two points adrift of safety.
The former striker was speaking to TalkSport and is quoted by the Chronicle as having said: “I think they could go again this season. It would be an absolute disaster.”
Though Phillips does not have much faith in the current Sunderland side, they have shown signs of improvement since Chris Coleman replaced Simon Grayson as manager and fans of the club can at least take heart from this.
However if the club does not start picking up points soon, they will become more and more likely to be relegated at the end of the season.
