Paul Merson has predicted a 2-0 win for Crystal Palace when they face off against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Newcastle had a disappointing January transfer window during which they managed to land Islam Slimani, though the Algerian is injured and will not be able to play immediately.
Both teams are still very much in the relegation battle this season with the Magpies just one point clear of the drop zone while Palace are two points clear.
Both teams are coming off 1-1 League draws and though the current form of both clubs says that the result will be hard to call, Merson is predicting that Palace will further inflict misery upon Rafa Benitez’s side.
He said, “It’s been a bit of a shocker for Newcastle recently on and off the field. They got hardly anything in the window. Islam Slimani came in but he’s injured and can’t play, while on the field they were winning against Burnley before Joselu missed a penalty and Karl Darlow’s own goal handed the visitors a point. I just don’t see anything but a Palace win here.”
“Palace had a bit of a disappointing Deadline Day but that shouldn’t affect them too much. They have been in decent form recently but they do have to be a bit careful. They are still in the relegation battle, as the Arsenal result proved, so they still need to pick up wins consistently.”
