According to Turkish publication Aksam, Celtic’s chances of landing Besiktas centre-back Duško Tošić have taken a huge hit with Tottenham, West Ham and Everton now in the race.
The Hoops are looking to add another defender to their ranks, with an injury to new signing Marvin Compper highlighting their need for reinforcements.
They have already tabled a £2.5million bid for the 33-year-old that has since been knocked back.
Besiktas want nothing less than £3.5million for the versatile Serbia international, and Celtic could miss out if any of the Premier League suitors decide to firm up interest.
The Scottish giants need experience on the continental level to have a chance in their Europa League clash against Zenit and going forward, and it’s a feature Tosic boasts of in excess.
The UEFA-Cup winning veteran, who can also play at left-back, has 2 Super Lig titles to his name and cup wins with Sochaux, Werder Bremen and Red Star Belgrade.
While he clearly has less than 3 years of top football in his legs, he could be a short-term solution to Celtic’s lack of quality depth at the back.
With the cash-rich EPL outfits coming after Tosic, though, it remains to be seen if the Parkhead side have any chance.
