Peterborough striker Jack Marriott has been linked with West Ham of recent, with a handful of reports claiming the Hammers are in the race for the League 1 hotshot.

However, Posh director of football Barry Fry, who is friends with David Sullivan and David Gold, has claimed that the links are untrue.

In his words: “I have watched the Hammers games against Stoke and West Brom from the director’ box and the team is doing really well under David Moyes.

“However, whilst I have a load of interest in Jack, the Hammers do not believe he is what they need at the moment and are concentrating on players with a lot of experience and have been there and done it.”

Only Harry Kane has scored more goals than Marriott amongst the English players in the top 4 divisions, and the form of the 23-year-old has put a lot of clubs in the Premier League and Championship on alert.

His impressive return of 24 goals in 39 appearances has the likes of Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Leeds, QPR and Millwall showing interest in landing him this transfer window.

The Hammers need attacking reinforcements with Javier Hernandez and Diafra Sakho linked with imminent January exits, but Marriott is clearly not likely to be the type of quality they need.
