Rangers star warned against moving to England

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has warned defender James Tavernier against quitting the Gers for Championship club Sunderland.

Tavernier has been a regular in the Gers first team for the past three season and he has so far made 27 appearances in all competitions for the team, scoring four goals an contributing six assists.

Should Tavernier end up joining Sunderland, he will be joining a team who are battling relegation and who currently occupy 23rd position on the Championship standings out of 24 teams.

Rae has warned Tavernier against joining the Black Cats as he feels that the 26-year old is capable of playing for a club who are in a better position.

Rae told The Mail: “I wouldn’t want Tavernier to go. And I’ve seen the interest from Sunderland. But, on the basis of what we saw at the weekend, you can see exactly what Rangers want from James time after time. He has the physicality to do that.

“And, if he keeps producing, that would make you think he can go even higher than – no disrespect to a great club – a Sunderland.”
