This past weekend five Colombian players played in three different games in the 12th matchday of the Superliga Argentina. The most notable performance came from the three players that played in Boca Juniors’ 1-0 win against Estudiantes de La Plata but here is a full roundup of the Cafeteros that had action in the Argentine top-tier league.
Barrios had the best performance from a Colombian player in the Superliga Argentina as he scored the winning goal in Boca Juniors’ 1-0 win against Estudiantes de La Plata. The goal was a beautifully struck effort from long range by Barrios that deflected off one of Estudiantes’ defenders and found the back of the net. The 24-year-old midfielder played all 90 minutes and also had 36 total passes, an 81-percent pass accuracy, six of six accurate long balls and a key pass. The Cartagena native was also excellent defensively as he had six clearances, four tackles, three interceptions and a blocked shot.
The worst performance of the three Colombians came from Edwin Cardona as he did not contribute much to the game. The 25-year-old played the full match, had a very low 69-percent pass accuracy, just one of five accurate crosses, two of five accurate long balls and was dispossessed six times. Despite his ineffective game, Cardona’s team still achieved the three points from this game that kept the team from Buenos Aires in first place.
Fabra is having an excellent season with the Azul y Oro and he kept that consistency going in this week 12 matchup. The 26-year-old fullback played the entire game, had 10 clearances, a blocked shot, an interception, two tackles, 39 total passes, an 81-percent pass accuracy and two key passes. The Envigdo youth product should be the starting left back for Los Cafeteros in the 2018 World Cup especially if he can stay this consistent. Boca Juniors is excelling in this edition of the Superliga Argentina, in first place with 30 points, three points ahead of second-place San Lorenzo.
Ibargüen played the entirety of Racing Club’s dominant 3-1 win against Gimnasia and had a very decent performance. The former Atletico Nacional winger had 34 total passes, an 89-percent pass accuracy, two of three accurate crosses, four of five successful dribble attempts and three key passes. The Cali native was dispossessed six times as well and won less than half of his duels but overall his performance was solid in Racing Club’s win. The team from Avellaneda is still struggling heavily, currently in 14th place with just 16 points and will need to keep on getting three points.

The 25-year-old centre-back played all 90 minutes in Argentinos Juniors’ 3-2 win against Banfield away from home. The Tolima native was all over Argentinos Juniors’ side of the pitch and had 12 clearances (one clearance off the line), two interceptions, and a blocked shot. The Envigado youth product has played half of Argentinos Juniors games this season and should keep on getting more playing time with performances like these.
