Aston Villa hero and promising manager steps down from his current role

According to reports from Sweden, Aston Villa hero Olof Mellberg has opted to step down from his role as head coach of IF Brommapojkarna in his homeland.

Mellberg took charge of the club two years ago when they were languishing in the third tier of Swedish football and helped them win back to back promotions and enter the top flight.

The 40-year-old is now said to be keen on taking a break from the game in order to hone his own managerial skills before deciding on his next move.

Based upon the impressive work which he did at Brommapojkarna at an early stage of his managerial career, Mellberg is likely to not be short of offers at all when he eventually does decide to end his hiatus.

Mellberg is a former fan favorite of Aston Villa having represented the club from 2001-2008 before departing to link up with Italian giants Juventus.
