This Sunday, November 12, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) Greece will host Croatia at the Karaiskakis Stadium for the second leg of a UEFA World Cup qualifier play-off. Croatia had a very dominant display in the first leg of the matchup and will be looking to secure its place in the next World Cup.
Greece had a meltdown in the first leg of this matchup, coming home with a 4-1 loss against Croatia. The defense was particularly vulnerable in that game and seemed to be really missing Kostas Manolas, who was serving a one-match ban. Manolas will be back for this game but at this point, it may be too late to get anything salvageable from this matchup with the three-goal deficit.
Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis scored the lone goal in the game for Piratiko but will need to take better command of the backline in this match. Michael Skibbe’s team will have the home-field advantage in this game but it will surely not be enough to overtake Croatia and get a ticket to Russia.
Croatia had a very dominant showing in that first leg with the 4-1 win, 17 total shots and 59-percent possession. The result was a solid team effort as four different players appeared on the scoresheet including captain Luka Modric, who was vital in the game.
The Blazers have a foot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and barring an unbelievable comeback by Greece should be able to hold on to their lead in this second leg. The game should still be very entertaining as Greece will surely be very aggressive from the initial whistle for any chance at a fantastic turnaround.
