Newcastle United are interested in securing the signature of Hamburg midfielder Lewis Holtby in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Sport Mole.
Newcastle United are currently under strength in the midfield position, with the likes of Mikel Merino, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden the only recognized first team players available for selection for manager Rafael Benitez.
As a result, Newcastle United are looking for a suitable new signing to provide cover in the position and it looks like they have found an ideal player for the role in the form of Hamburg’s Lewis Holtby.
Holtby is into the final year of his contract at Hamburg and with the midfielder struggling for a regular spot in the first team, the German side might be tempted to sell the former Tottenham midfielder during the January transfer window and Newcastle could land him on the cheap.
Other than Newcastle, Bournemouth are also believed to be trailing the German international and it will be interesting to see where the versatile midfielder decides to move to.
