European giants reportedly to increase buyout clause of West Ham and Everton target

As per The Sun, West Ham’s and Everton’s chances of landing Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho have been dealt another huge blow, as the Portuguese giants aim to tie down the 25-year-old to a new deal.

The Portugal international had a £40million buyout clause when the Hammers approached Lisbon for his signature during the summer transfer window.

However, a contract extension, which will also come with a substantial wage increase, will see Carvalho’s new release fees increase to £54million.

The east Londoners are thought to be keen on returning for the services of the Euros 2016 winner in January or next summer.

However, having refused to meet Lisbon’s new asking price after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the player, it remains unlikely that they would be willing to pay a £14million increase.

Everton have also maintained a long-term interest in Carvalho, and with manager Ronald Koeman set to make additional signings in January to save the club’s woeful campaign, returning for the player’s signature might be considered.

The purported new deal, however, could put the defensive midfielder’s Premier League ambitions on hold till next summer.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus have all been linked with Carvalho in the past, and would all be able to afford his new asking price should they revisit their interest in him.
