Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed that his club tried to keep Fernando Llorente at the Welsh club this season by offering him an improved contact.
The Spanish international was one of the Swans best players last season as he went on to score 15 Premier League goals last season to help the club avoid relegation.
He moved to Tottenham this summer in order to provide competition and support for the North London clubs first choice striker Harry Kane. Llorente not only brings quality to the Spurs side, but also experience which is also vital.
Whilst discussing Llorente, Jenkins said, “With Llorente we talked to him for weeks, there was a lot of talks about upgrading his contract and giving him a new two-year deal.
It has easy to see why Llorente favoured the transfer to Tottenham. By moving to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, he is moving into a squad while can potentially win major silverware.
