Match Preview

Monterrey has been far and above the best team in the Liga MX in this Apertura 2017, currently leading the league with 17 points. La Pandilla is currently undefeated and is coming off a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul away from home. The strongest component for Antonio Mohamed has been his imposing offense featuring players like Aviles Hurtado, Dorlan Pabon and Rogelio Funes Mori.

The three have scored 12 of Monterrey’s 15 goals this season and should play a factor in the result of this game. Los Rayados are the heavy favorites going into the game with their current home and the massive home-field advantage at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

Necaxa has been one of the more surprising teams in this tournament currently in fifth place with 12 points. Los Rayos were set to have a tough season without star player Edson Puch but did fantastic work rebuilding the team in the transfer window. The team from Aguascalientes still acquired a player this month with the arrival of Matias Fernandez from Italian team Fiorentina.

It is unclear if Fernandez will be available for this game but Ignacio Ambriz still counts with a solid side that has been able to achieve the results. A consistent goalscorer still has not emerged within the club but a mix of players like Jesus Isijara, Carlos Gonzalez and Pablo Velazquez have been able to put the goals away. The game should be an entertaining duel even if Monterrey is the clear favorite to take the three points.
